Proprietary Blend Supplements: Why the Total Hides the Dose
Proprietary blend supplements list a group of ingredients under one name with one total weight, and the law does not require a separate amount for each. Items must be listed from most to least by weight. That gives you an order and a ceiling for every item, but never the exact dose, so you can only estimate.

The rule01
What is a proprietary blend on a supplement label?
A proprietary blend is a named group of ingredients that shares one total weight on the label. Federal rule 21 CFR 101.36 allows it, and the weight of each item inside may stay private (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)).
The rule has one firm limit. The items must be listed in descending order of weight. So the first item weighs the most and the last weighs the least.
The label can use a made-up name for the group. That name tells you nothing about the dose, which is why the order and the total matter more than the name.
Do the math02
How do you estimate a dose inside a blend?
Divide the blend total by the item's place in the list to get the most it can hold. An item in place k cannot weigh more than the total divided by k.
Why it works: every item before it weighs at least as much. If item k weighed more than total divided by k, the k items ahead of it would add up to more than the whole blend.
| Place | Ingredient | At most per mL |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Maca root | 15.47 mg |
| 2 | African mango seed | 7.7 mg |
| 3 | Grape seed | 5.2 mg |
| 8 | Gymnema sylvestre leaf | 1.9 mg |
| 21 | L-carnitine HCl | 0.74 mg |
An even split would be 15.47 divided by 21, about 0.74 mg each. See every line on the supplement facts page.
Why it matters03
Why do proprietary blend supplements worry shoppers?
They worry shoppers because the dose decides whether an ingredient does anything, and a blend hides it. Gymnema was studied at 200 to 400 mg of extract (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph), yet one dropper holds at most about 1.9 mg.
A long list can look strong. In a small blend, each name may be a trace. Even the top ceiling, 15.47 mg for maca, is a small number next to most trial doses.
Secrecy also blocks a basic safety question. If you take a blood thinner or a heart drug, you cannot tell how much of an active plant you are swallowing.
Blends are not illegal and not a sign of bad intent. They are a signal to ask for more, not a verdict.

What should you ask before buying a blended supplement?
Ask for the amount of each active item, the testing record and the facility name. A seller who cares about trust can share at least some of these.
- Is the blend total shown, and is it larger than a few milligrams?
- Are the items in a clear order, with the strongest first?
- Does anything on the list match a medicine you take?
- Is there a lab report for the exact lot? Glyco Defender publishes none, and the lot codes it prints are seller references only.
The badges on the Glyco Defender page describe the label. They do not replace a lab report.

The label says it was made in an FDA registered facility. Registration is not approval, and FDA does not endorse products.

Matches the label: made in the USA with globally sourced ingredients. The countries are not named.

Matches the sales page's 60-day, 100% money-back guarantee, claimed through the order desk.
Every badge is taken from the brand's own image set. A badge is a claim by the seller, not a certificate: none names a certifier, lab or audit. FDA does not approve supplements before they are sold (FDA, Using Dietary Supplements), and health claims in ads need real evidence (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance).

Is a hidden-dose blend worth trying?
A hidden-dose blend is a judgment call. If you accept the unknowns, the 60-day money-back guarantee limits the money at risk.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist first if you take any medicine. Keep taking it as prescribed, and see pricing for the packs.

Glyco Defender is a dietary supplement, not a treatment. Ask your doctor or pharmacist first if you use insulin, a sulfonylurea or another glucose-lowering drug, a blood thinner, blood pressure or heart-rhythm medicine, an antidepressant or thyroid medicine. Chromium, gymnema and ginseng may add to diabetes medicines and cause lows; guarana and green tea add caffeine. Keep taking prescribed medicine. See side effects and interactions.
FAQ06
Glyco Defender questions people ask
Is a proprietary blend the same as a secret formula?
Partly. The ingredients are named, so the formula is not secret. Only the single amounts are private. You get the names, the order and the total, which is enough for a ceiling but not for an exact dose.
Can a proprietary blend contain a very small amount of each ingredient?
Yes. If a blend holds 15.47 mg and lists 21 items, an even split is about 0.74 mg each. The label does not promise a useful amount of any one item, so check what research used.
Does a proprietary blend mean the supplement is unsafe?
No. A blend is a labeling choice, not a safety finding. It does make safety harder to judge, since you cannot see the amount of any active plant. Ask your doctor if you take medicine.
How is a proprietary blend different from a multivitamin label?
A multivitamin usually lists each nutrient with its own amount and percent Daily Value. A blend gives one total for the group. That makes the vitamin label easier to compare with trial doses and the blend harder.
