Chromium Picolinate in Glyco Defender: 7 mcg per Dropper, Next to the Research
Glyco Defender chromium comes to 7 mcg per 1 mL dropper, as chromium picolinate. That is 20% of the 35 mcg Daily Value, while adults need 20-35 mcg a day. Diabetes trials of chromium ran up to 1,000 mcg a day and found only slight drops in fasting glucose and A1C. Chromium may add to diabetes medicines.

How much chromium is in Glyco Defender?
Glyco Defender chromium is 7 mcg per dropper, printed as "Chromium (as Chromium Picolinate) 7 mcg" with 20% of the Daily Value beside it.
It is the only line on the panel with its own amount. The other 21 ingredients hide inside a 15.47 mg blend. So chromium is the one dose you can check exactly.
A bottle holds 30 droppers. That adds up to 210 mcg of chromium across a month, taken 7 mcg at a time.
| Name on the label | Chromium (as Chromium Picolinate) |
|---|---|
| What it is | Trace mineral |

| Strength of evidence | Slight fasting-glucose drop in diabetes trials; no help in healthy people |
| Marketed or traditional use | Helps insulin do its job |
| Main caution | Can add to the effect of diabetes medicines. |
The mineral02
What is chromium picolinate?
Chromium picolinate is the trace mineral chromium bound to picolinic acid, the form used most often in chromium trials.
Your body needs only tiny amounts of chromium. It is thought to help insulin do its job, which is why it shows up in so many blood sugar products (NIH ODS, Chromium).
In Glyco Defender it sits above the blend, dissolved in water with the other drops. One squeeze of the bulb delivers the full 7 mcg.
One bottle, one printed dose
The bottle holds 30 mL. Each 1 mL dropper carries the same 7 mcg. The sales page sells each bottle as a 30-day supply (Glyco Defender sales page).

Dose check03
What is a normal chromium picolinate dose?
A normal chromium picolinate dose for daily needs is 20-35 mcg, the adult Adequate Intake; diabetes trials used anywhere from 1.28 to 1,000 mcg a day.
So 7 mcg covers a fifth of the Daily Value. It is a real amount, but a small one next to most trial doses.
| Reference | Chromium per day |
|---|---|
| One Glyco Defender dropper | 7 mcg |
| Adequate Intake, women 19-50 | 25 mcg |
| Adequate Intake, men 19-50 and Daily Value | 35 mcg |
| Doses in diabetes trials | 1.28 to 1,000 mcg |
Evidence04
Does chromium for blood sugar actually help?
Chromium for blood sugar shows only slight effects: a 2019 review of diabetes trials found small drops in fasting glucose and A1C of unclear clinical value.
A 2016 review found no help for blood sugar in healthy people (NIH ODS, Chromium). NCCIH calls the evidence for chromium weak (NCCIH, Diabetes and Dietary Supplements). The ADA sees no benefit without a true deficiency (ADA, Vitamins & Supplements).
None of those studies tested Glyco Defender. They tested chromium alone, often at far higher doses.
Safety05
Who should check with a doctor before taking chromium?
Anyone on insulin, a sulfonylurea or another diabetes drug should check first, because chromium may add to those drugs and raise the risk of lows.
Chromium may also reduce how well levothyroxine, a thyroid medicine, is absorbed (NIH ODS, Chromium). A pharmacist can tell you how far apart to take them.

When should you take the chromium in Glyco Defender?
Take it any time that suits you, since the label prints no time of day: shake, then 1 dropperful in the mouth or in water.
Mornings suit many people, because the blend also carries a little caffeine from guarana and green tea. Do not take more than one dropper a day; the label says not to exceed the dose.
The full routine sits on the supplement facts page.
Fair view07
Is Glyco Defender a good way to get chromium?
It is a modest source: 7 mcg is 20% DV, well under the amounts most chromium trials tested.
The case for the drops rests on the whole formula, not chromium alone. Each bottle costs $49 to $89 depending on the pack, about $1.63 to $2.97 a day.
- Fair: a clear, printed chromium dose
- Weak: well below most trial amounts
- Unknown: how it behaves with the 21 blend items

FAQ09
Chromium in Glyco Defender: questions
What chromium picolinate dose per day is normal for adults?
Adults need about 20-35 mcg of chromium a day, depending on age and sex, and the Daily Value is 35 mcg. One Glyco Defender dropper gives 7 mcg. Trials in people with diabetes used much more, but with only slight results.
Can the chromium in Glyco Defender cause low blood sugar?
On its own, 7 mcg is unlikely to. The risk rises if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea, because chromium may add to those drugs. Ask your doctor first and learn the signs of a low before starting.
Can I take Glyco Defender chromium with levothyroxine?
Ask your pharmacist first. NIH notes chromium may reduce how well levothyroxine is absorbed. Your pharmacist can tell you whether to space the two apart, and by how long.
Is chromium picolinate better than other forms of chromium?
Our sources do not show that one form is clearly better. Chromium picolinate is the form used most often in trials, which is why many products choose it. The results in those trials were still small.
Do I need extra chromium if I eat a normal diet?
Most likely not. The ADA says supplements bring no benefit without a real deficiency. If you think you are low, ask your doctor rather than guessing with a supplement.
Can I take a separate chromium supplement with Glyco Defender?
Check with your doctor first. Stacking products adds up the chromium, and the bigger concern is how chromium works with diabetes medicines. Count the 7 mcg in each dropper when you total your daily intake.
