African Mango in Glyco Defender: Irvingia Gabonensis Seed, 2nd in the Blend
African mango in Glyco Defender is Irvingia gabonensis seed extract, listed 2nd of 21 in the 15.47 mg blend, so one dropper holds at most about 7.7 mg. The trial dose on record is 300 mg a day. Human data on blood sugar are limited and weight results are weak. Ask first if you take diabetes medicine.

On the label01
How much African mango is in Glyco Defender?
The label gives no African mango amount, but its 2nd place in the 15.47 mg blend caps it at about 7.7 mg per dropper.
Blend items run from most to least by weight (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)). Only maca can outweigh it. So African mango holds at most half the blend: 15.47 / 2 = 7.7 mg.
An even split gives about 0.74 mg. The true amount sits somewhere at or below the ceiling, and the label does not say where.

The plant02
What is African mango (Irvingia gabonensis)?
African mango, Irvingia gabonensis, is a tree from West and Central Africa whose fruit looks like a mango and whose seeds are dried and ground.
It is not related to the common mango. Supplements use the seed, and so does Glyco Defender: the label reads "African Mango (Irvingia gabonensis) Seed Extract".
The photo at the top is a brand image of the fruit and cracked seeds. The drops contain only a seed extract, in small amounts.
Footnote03
What does the 10:1 mark on African mango mean?
The 10:1 mark means about 10 parts of seed went into each part of the concentrate; it does not make the dose 10 times larger.
African mango is the only blend item with a quote-mark footnote. Most other extracts carry a caret for 20:1. Either way, one dropper still holds 15.47 mg of blend in total.

Dose check04
What dose of African mango did studies use?
The best-known trial gave 150 mg of African mango extract before lunch and dinner, 300 mg a day, to 102 adults for 10 weeks.
The 7.7 mg ceiling is about 2.6% of that daily amount. The even split, 0.74 mg, is about 0.25%. The trials were small, and NIH calls the evidence limited (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss).
| Amount | African mango per day | Share of 300 mg |
|---|---|---|
| Even split, one dropper | About 0.74 mg | About 0.25% |
| Label-order ceiling, one dropper | About 7.7 mg | About 2.6% |
| Trial of 102 adults | 300 mg (150 mg twice) | 100% |
Evidence05
Does African mango help blood sugar?
African mango and blood sugar have little human research behind them, so nobody can say it helps.
Memorial Sloan Kettering calls human blood sugar data limited (MSKCC, Irvingia gabonensis (African mango)). NCCIH says no herbal supplement has reliable evidence for diabetes control (NCCIH, Diabetes and Dietary Supplements). Rat studies hint at a glucose effect, but rats are not people.
No study has tested African mango inside Glyco Defender. If blood sugar is your worry, an A1C or fasting test with your doctor tells you far more than any blend can. A fasting reading of 100-125 mg/dL falls in the prediabetes range (NIDDK, Diabetes & Prediabetes Tests).

Does African mango help with weight loss?
The weight evidence for African mango is weak: most studies were small and poorly designed.
The sales page points to "the stubborn weight around the middle". Neither African mango nor any other blend item has good evidence for that at full doses, let alone at 7.7 mg or less (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss).
Lifestyle changes have far stronger data. In the Diabetes Prevention Program, aiming for 7% weight loss and 150 minutes of activity a week cut the risk of type 2 diabetes by 58% (NIDDK, Diabetes Prevention Program). Our full read of the sales claims is on claims vs evidence.
Safety07
What are the side effects of African mango?
Reported side effects of African mango include gas, headache and trouble sleeping, and one case of kidney failure needing dialysis was reported.
MSK also lists diabetes drugs as a caution. Rat studies suggest African mango may add to their glucose effect, though nobody knows if that holds in people (MSKCC, Irvingia gabonensis (African mango)).
Do not change a dose because of a supplement. On insulin or a sulfonylurea, talk to your doctor first and read supplements and diabetes medicines.
All label cautions are gathered on Glyco Defender side effects.
Fair view08
Is Glyco Defender a good African mango supplement?
No. It holds at most 2.6% of the trial dose, so it is not a substitute for a product built around African mango.
Its high place in the blend is real, but a high share of a small blend is still small. Think of it as one part of a daily habit, not the reason to buy.
- Fair: the seed extract is named and placed 2nd
- Weak: the true amount is hidden
- Unknown: any effect at 7.7 mg or less

FAQ10
African mango in Glyco Defender: questions
What is African mango seed extract?
It is a concentrate made from the seeds of Irvingia gabonensis, a West and Central African tree. Glyco Defender uses a 10:1 seed extract, listed 2nd in its blend, with no single amount printed on the label.
Is African mango the same as a regular mango?
No. African mango comes from Irvingia gabonensis, a different tree from the common mango. Its fruit looks similar, but supplements use the seed, which is where the extract in Glyco Defender comes from.
How much African mango should you take a day?
No daily amount is set. The best-known trial used 300 mg a day, split into two 150 mg doses, for 10 weeks. One Glyco Defender dropper holds at most about 7.7 mg. Ask your doctor before trying a full dose.
Can African mango cause sleep problems?
Trouble sleeping is one of its reported side effects. Glyco Defender also has some caffeine from guarana and green tea, so take the dropper earlier in the day if you sleep lightly and notice a change.
Is African mango safe for your kidneys?
One case of kidney failure needing dialysis was reported in someone taking it. That is a single report, not proof of cause, but anyone with kidney disease should ask a doctor before using a product that contains it.
Why is African mango listed second in Glyco Defender?
Because it is the second heaviest item in the blend. Labels list blend ingredients from most to least by weight, so only maca root weighs more. That ranking caps African mango at about 7.7 mg per dropper, but the exact amount is not printed.
Can African mango be taken with diabetes medicine?
Ask your doctor first. Rat studies suggest African mango may add to the effect of diabetes drugs, and the human relevance is unknown. Keep taking your medicine as prescribed and watch for signs of a low.
