20:1 Extract Equivalent Meaning: How to Read the Glyco Defender Footnotes
The 20:1 extract equivalent meaning is a statement about the starting material: roughly 20 parts of raw plant were concentrated to make one part of extract. It does not change what is in the bottle. On Glyco Defender, the 15.47 mg blend total stays the same, and the footnotes do not reveal single amounts.

Plain meaning01
What does 20:1 extract equivalent mean?
The 20:1 extract equivalent meaning is a ratio of raw plant to finished extract: 20 to 1.
Think of boiling down a large pot of tea into a small cup of syrup. The syrup came from much more leaf than the cup holds.
A ratio like 20:1 tells you how concentrated the extract is. It does not tell you how much extract is in the product.
That second number is what a buyer needs, and on Glyco Defender it is hidden inside the blend. Federal rules allow that (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)).
On the bottle02
Where does the label use these ratios?
Two footnotes sit under the blend: one for a 20:1 concentrate on most extracts, and one for a 10:1 concentrate on African mango.
The label reads "Sourced from a concentrate with a 20:1 extract equivalent" for most lines. A second note gives African mango a 10:1 equivalent.
| Label fact | What it tells you | What it does not tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Blend total 15.47 mg | The combined weight of all 21 items in one 1 mL serving | The weight of any single item |
| 20:1 footnote | The extracts were concentrated from about 20 times as much raw plant | That the bottle holds 20 times more |
| 10:1 footnote | African mango was concentrated about 10 to 1 | The milligrams of African mango |
| List order | Most to least by weight | The gap between neighbors |
Check the math03
Does a 20:1 ratio mean a bigger dose?
No. The ratio describes how the extract was made, and the dose is still capped by the 15.47 mg total.
Some sellers multiply the extract weight by 20 and call the result the dose. We do not, and the label does not support it. Raw plant weight is not what you swallow.
Under the weight rule, an ingredient in place k holds at most 15.47 divided by k mg (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)). Gymnema, in 8th place, can hold about 1.9 mg. The studies of gymnema used 200-400 mg of extract (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph).
Stretching a small extract weight into a big raw-plant number sounds impressive, but studies measure the extract dose, so the comparison fails.

Why is African mango at 10:1 and the rest at 20:1?
The label does not say why, so any answer is a guess, but a different extract method is the usual reason for a different ratio.
African mango is the second ingredient on the list, so it may hold more than most lines, up to 7.7 mg. The one trial we cite gave 150 mg twice a day (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). Even at the ceiling, a dropper holds under 3 percent of that.

How can you compare extracts before you buy?
Ask for the milligrams of each extract and a lab report, and compare them to the studied dose.

FAQ06
Glyco Defender questions people ask
What is an extract ratio on a supplement label?
It is the amount of raw plant used to make one part of extract. A 20:1 ratio means about 20 parts plant to 1 part extract. It describes how the ingredient was made, not how much of it is in the serving.
Is a 20:1 extract stronger than a 10:1 extract?
It is more concentrated per gram, but strength per serving depends on how many milligrams are used. A small amount of a 20:1 extract can contain less than a larger amount of a 10:1 extract.
Can I multiply the blend by 20 to find the real dose?
No. The 15.47 mg blend total is the weight of the extracts themselves. Multiplying by 20 would count raw plant that is not in the bottle, which overstates the dose and cannot be compared with studies.
Does the 20:1 note mean the extract is standardized?
No. A ratio is not a standard. Standardized extracts name a marker compound and its percentage, such as a share of gymnemic acids. The Glyco Defender label gives a ratio only, with no marker compound or percentage.
